This visualization illustrates the frequency of words found in a textual analysis of tweets from 2010 to 2017 that include the hashtag #glossier. In order to produce appropriate values for this bubble chart, stop words (such as ‘the’, ‘and’, etc) were removed using the tidytext library, which includes the dataset ‘stop_words’. Words associated with less than 3 tweets were not included in these visualizations in order to preserve legibility and efficient browser loading times.

From these bubble charts, we gleaned that the most popular words/tweets surrounding the hashtag #glossier are promotional messages such as “Wanna get 10% off your #glossier order? Shop here!” which link to coupons on Glossier’s website. The vast amount of unique words did not have a high frequency (i.e. they only showed up as 1 occurrence in the dataset). These individual tweets are still very rich for sentiment analysis, since they contain more information about the culture surrounding Glossier and its brand.
